It was gathered that Bello has consulted with leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja and some stakeholders within Kogi.
Sources said Achuba was a close ally of late Audu and his choice may likely calm frayed nerves in some quarters.
Achuba, from Ibaji Local Government Area in the eastern part of the state, was a former deputy speaker at the state’s Assembly and also a former deputy governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
Bello was sworn in as governor of the state on January 27 without a deputy as the running mate to late Prince Abubakar Audu in the last governorship election, Mr James Abiodun Faleke, declined to serve as deputy to governor Bello.
At present, Bello is facing two court cases, one from Faleke and the other from former Governor Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Faleke filed a suit at the governorship election tribunal, challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for declaring the November 21governorship election inconclusive, insisting that the election was won by the late Audu.
Faleke also approached a high court, demanding that he should be declared as governor.
In the suit, Faleke insisted that contrary to the claim made by the electoral body, the Kogi State governorship election was conclusive.
He is seeking for 16 principal reliefs from the court comprising: “A declaration that by the express provisions of sections 179 (2) (a) and (b) and 187(1) of the constitution, a person who is nominated as an associate of a candidate for the office of governor of a state is duly elected deputy governor of a state when the candidate for the office of the governor scores the highest number of votes at the election and also scored not less than one quarter of all the votes cast in each of at least two-third of all the local government areas in the state.”
