The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dismissed reports it had located the position of the girls Boko Haram terrorists abducted in Chibok in 2014. Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, said the reports emanated from a misrepresentation of an interview with a television channel, aired last Friday.“The NAF is hereby making it categorically clear that in the said interview the Director made mention of the NAF’s ability to identify possible location that the girls might be in,” said Famuyiwa this past weekend.
Hence, Famuyiwa said NAF wished to categorically state it had at no time identified the specific location of the Chibok girls.
However, NAF is working “round the clock” with surveillance aircraft in the Northeast in order to identify the position of the more than 200 girls and other Nigerians that might have been held captives.”Therefore, Famuyiwa said, while the specific position of the Chibok girls had not yet been ascertained, NAF “had not folded its arms” on the surveillance flights.“(NAF) will continue to use these flights to degrade the capacity of the terrorists and as soon as possible locate the position of the Chibok girls and other Nigerians that are under captivity.”Members of the Boko Haram sect have abducted scores of civilians, including more than 200 schoolgirls sect members kidnapped at a government school in Chibok.
