Drake new album "VIEW" had Kanye West as co-producer

Drake released his fourth studio album,"Views From the 6", and its packed full of emo lyrics, cryptic references and maybe even a few shout outs to his famous friends (and foes). The 29-year-old's new music was previewed on Beats1Radio on Apple Music and is available on iTunes.

The Canadian rapper unveiled the track list of the highly anticipated album earlier this week, which features 20 songs (including the previously released "Hotline Bling" and "One Dance").

And earlier today, Drake posted a bit more info about Views and just who is behind many of the songs.

It turns out Kanye West had his hand in the project—despite their public diss tracks—since he is listed as a co-producer on "(U With Me?" alongside Noah "40" Shebib.

Two more US Congress Members endorses Donald Trump

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Thursday won endorsements from two more U.S. Congress members as he battled to be his party's nominee.

Of the 300 Republicans in Congress - 246 in the House of Representatives and 54 in the Senate - Trump now had the explicit support of 11 with the newly announced public backing by Representatives Jeff Miller of Florida and Bill Shuster of Pennsylvania.

Trump, a billionaire businessman, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and Ohio Governor John Kasich were vying for the nomination to represent the Republican Party in the Nov. 8 general election.

"Donald Trump is the only person who has what it takes to shake up the status quo and entrenched bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.," Miller said in a statement.

Miller, who will retire from the Republican-controlled Congress at year's end, capping 16 years in the House, has chaired the House Veterans Affairs Committee.
Shuster, also in his 16th year in the House, has chaired a powerful transportation committee.

Trump backers in Congress have argued that many more lawmakers privately expressed support for Trump, but still have to run in primaries and so have publicly remained neutral.

Representative Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, who endorsed Trump this month, said in an interview that the Trump campaign was cranking up its outreach to Congress.

Cruz, a small-government Tea Party favorite, has snared more endorsements from Congress members.

The most prominent U.S. Republican lawmakers to publicly endorse Trump was Senator Jeff Sessions, who has been advising the campaign on foreign policy.

The others were U.S. Representatives Chris Collins, Duncan Hunter, Tom Marino, Tom Reed, Scott DesJarlais, Lou Barletta and Renee Ellmers.

PDP Crisis: NEC Meeting shun by key BoT Members

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party became more visible on Thursday as majority members of its Board of Trustees, National Caucus and others stayed away from its National Executive Committee meeting which was held in Abuja.

BoT members and others were said to have been angered by the decision of the national leadership of the party to hold NEC meeting without following due process.

Traditionally, NEC meeting is held after both the BoT and the National Caucus of the party must have met.

However, the National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, was said to have tactically refused to call for the meetings of the two organs of the party before he hurriedly called for the NEC meeting.

Both the BoT and the National Caucus ought to have reviewed issues slated for discussion at the NEC meeting.

It was gathered that Sheriff decided not to allow the two meetings to hold because of the resolve of their members to oppose the recommendation of the zoning committee.

The committee, headed by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, had recommended that the next national chairman of the party should come from the North-East.

Sheriff, a former governor of Borno State, is the only formidable candidate from the zone contesting the position of the national chairman at the party’s national convention slated for May 21 in Port Harcourt.

Earlier in the day, a member of the BoT from the North-East, had called the attention of our correspondent to what he described as an “open confrontation” to the members of the board and the national caucus by Sheriff’s style of leadership.

The BoT member said, “We were not told about the NEC meeting. Text messages were sent to the people they wanted to be there. Ordinarily, the meeting of the BoT and the National Caucus ought to have been on Tuesday and Wednesday before the NEC meeting.

“At these two meetings, we would have reviewed the report of the zoning committee and take a position on the zoning of the office of the national chairman to the North-East. We wouldn’t have supported it.

“It is apparent that these set of leaders want to kill the party, but God in His infinite mercy won’t allow it. We would regroup to take action.”

Only the Acting Chairman of the BoT, Walid Jibrin, and two other members were seeing at the meeting.

Apparently aware of the anger of the members of the Board, Jibrin said that the exclusion of the BoT members from the meeting was not deliberate.

Jibrin said, “The exclusion of the BoT members from the meeting is not deliberate and I appeal to all members of the BoT that they should not take offence that there was no meeting of the BoT.

“We will have another meeting after this one. We are very aware of the various meetings everywhere, I have decided that I will not attend any meeting apart from the properly organised meetings, because we have to be very careful in the way we hold meetings these days.

“Anyway, we have to use these meetings positively in a way that they will benefit the party.

“Many of us who are founding members of the PDP will not leave the PDP and the PDP will never die.

“We will continue to be in the PDP and whatever mistake is there we will remain there to correct and make our contributions because leaving the PDP is not the answer.”

Meanwhile, the National Executive Committee of the PDP has approved the zoning of the party’s national offices.

The party took the decision at its poorly-attended NEC meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

The new officers are to be elected at the party’s national convention slated for May 21 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The zoning, as released by the party are National Chairman(North-East), Deputy National Chairman (South-South), National Secretary(South-West), Deputy National Secretary(North-Central), National Organising Secretary (South-East) and Deputy National organising Secretary(North-Central).

Others are National Treasurer(South-South), Deputy National Treasurer (North-West), National Legal Adviser (North-West), Deputy National Legal Adviser (South-South), Woman Leader (North-West), Deputy Woman Leader(South-South), Financial Secretary (North-Central), Deputy Financial Secretary (South-East), National Auditor (South-West), Deputy National Auditor (North-East), National Youth Leader (South-East), Deputy National Youth Leader(North-West, National Publicity Secretary (South-West) and Deputy National Publicity Secretary (North-Central).

Buhari ordered full investigation into Fulani killings across the country

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the police and the military to "take all necessary action to stop the carnage", following the latest attacks by the Fulani herdsmen in the Enugu State.

Over 20 people were killed on Monday in the Ukpabi Nimbo community.

Reports indicated that over 100 armed cattle rearers stormed the community, killing indiscriminately and razing buildings in the process.

Prior to the attack, the herdsmen had been recruiting gunmen from Nasarawa in preparation for the deadly ambush.

Many of the villagers escaped to the nearby Uzo-Uwani area, where many of the natives in the community are fearing for their safety in light of more attacks.

The villagers said they were abandoned even after they alerted security agencies to the plan to attack them.

According to Premium Times, in a statement signed by presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari said stopping the violence was now a priority for his administration.

"President Buhari unreservedly condemns the attack on Ukpabi Nimbo and other such acts of extreme violence against communities in other states of the Federation… The Inspector-General of Police and heads of the nation’s other security agencies are already taking urgent steps to fully investigate the attacks, apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice," read part of the statement.

Buhari has been accused of not responding firmly to the attacks that have spread to other states, and has been widely criticised for his silence.

Eye witness account: How and Why Mercy Aigbe and brother were arrested

Popular Yoruba actress, Mercy Aigbe, was on Wednesday arrested by heavily armed policemen at the Olaiya Junction area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

There was drama in Osogbo, the   Osun State capital,  when some policemen attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID),  Osogbo,  arrested Mercy Aigbe, for allegedly  being in possession of police cap in her car.

Aigbe, who was chauffeur-driven by a young man at around 4:20 p.m, in a Honda saloon car, was given a hot chase by the policemen after sighting the police cap in the gold-colour vehicle.

The security agents eventually caught up with her at the popular Olaiya junction in Osogbo, while her car was thoroughly searched by the policemen, who shot sporadically in into air.

When Aigbe was ordered out of the car, she obliged the policemen, just as her appearance drew a huge crowd of people to the scene, who jostled to catch a glimpse of her while being questioned by four  policemen

In the process, the actress’s vehicle papers and phones were confiscated by the policemen, a development which made the embattled actress to put a call across to someone who spoke with one of the policemen before the vehicle papers and phone were released to her.

Another team of policemen subsequently arrived  at the scene, shooting into the air to disperse the crowd.

The policemen later arrested Aigbe’s driver, before ordering the actress to enter her car while one of the policemen drove them along with the police team.

When contacted on the telephone, the State Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Mrs Folasade Odoro, said she was not around in the state to comment on the development.

A witness told our correspondent that the policemen fired three gunshots into the air before whisking the actress and her brother, who drove her in a Honda Accord car  away to an unknown place.

It was not clear why the police team arrested her, but our correspondent gathered that the policemen were on a stop-and-search when they saw a police cap on the dashboard of Aigbe’s car.

Another witness said the police arrested the actress’ brother because he dressed like  ‘yahoo boys.’

Angered by the effrontery of the police to block her, the actress was said to have flared up and insulted the policemen, who seized her mobile phone.

The actress, whose husband is said to be a police officer, reportedly called him and he pleaded with the policemen to release her.

But the actress was said to have spoken harshly to the policemen and this reportedly annoyed them.

This led to an altercation and her phone was reportedly  seized before some passerby pleaded with the security operatives, who gave her back the phone.

The altercation between her and the policemen attracted a huge crowd of people, some of whom wanted to beat up the policemen.

The policemen called for reinforcement to prevent the crowd from attacking them.

One of the eyewitness said at the scene that the police team which arrested her was in search of ‘yahoo boys’ and the look of a young man, who drove the actress attracted their attention as well as the police cap in the car.

The eyewitness said, “When the policemen got to the junction, they went to the parked car and ordered the driver to roll down the window of the car because it was tinted and they could not  identify those in the car.

“Immediately the driver rolled the glasses down Mercy Aigbe rushed out of the car to confront the policemen.  They eventually took her and the boy who drove away.”

The actress’ brother was pushed into the back of the parol van, she was allowed to remain in her car which was driven away by a policeman.

They were not detained at the police station as it was speculated in some media.

Full Transcript of Donald Trump Foreign Policy Speech

Thank you for the opportunity to speak to you, and thank you to the Center for the National Interest for honoring me with this invitation.

I would like to talk today about how to develop a new foreign policy direction for our country – one that replaces randomness with purpose, ideology with strategy, and chaos with peace.

It is time to shake the rust off of America’s foreign policy. It's time to invite new voices and new visions into the fold.

The direction I will outline today will also return us to a timeless principle. My foreign policy will always put the interests of the American people, and American security, above all else. That will be the foundation of every decision that I will make.

America First will be the major and overriding theme of my administration.

But to chart our path forward, we must first briefly look back.

We have a lot to be proud of. In the 1940s we saved the world. The Greatest Generation beat back the Nazis and the Japanese Imperialists.

Then we saved the world again, this time from totalitarian Communism. The Cold War lasted for decades, but we won.

Democrats and Republicans working together got Mr. Gorbachev to heed the words of President Reagan when he said: “tear down this wall.”

History will not forget what we did.

Unfortunately, after the Cold War, our foreign policy veered badly off course. We failed to develop a new vision for a new time. In fact, as time went on, our foreign policy began to make less and less sense.

Logic was replaced with foolishness and arrogance, and this led to one foreign policy disaster after another.

We went from mistakes in Iraq to Egypt to Libya, to President Obama’s line in the sand in Syria. Each of these actions have helped to throw the region into chaos, and gave ISIS the space it needs to grow and prosper.

It all began with the dangerous idea that we could make Western democracies out of countries that had no experience or interest in becoming a Western Democracy.

We tore up what institutions they had and then were surprised at what we unleashed. Civil war, religious fanaticism; thousands of American lives, and many trillions of dollars, were lost as a result. The vacuum was created that ISIS would fill. Iran, too, would rush in and fill the void, much to their unjust enrichment.

Our foreign policy is a complete and total disaster.

No vision, no purpose, no direction, no strategy.

Today, I want to identify five main weaknesses in our foreign policy.

First, Our Resources Are Overextended

President Obama has weakened our military by weakening our economy. He’s crippled us with wasteful spending, massive debt, low growth, a huge trade deficit and open borders.

Our manufacturing trade deficit with the world is now approaching $1 trillion a year. We’re rebuilding other countries while weakening our own.

Ending the theft of American jobs will give us the resources we need to rebuild our military and regain our financial independence and strength.

I am the only person running for the Presidency who understands this problem and knows how to fix it.

Secondly, our allies are not paying their fair share.

Our allies must contribute toward the financial, political and human costs of our tremendous security burden. But many of them are simply not doing so. They look at the United States as weak and forgiving and feel no obligation to honor their agreements with us.

In NATO, for instance, only 4 of 28 other member countries, besides America, are spending the minimum required 2% of GDP on defense.

We have spent trillions of dollars over time – on planes, missiles, ships, equipment – building up our military to provide a strong defense for Europe and Asia. The countries we are defending must pay for the cost of this defense – and, if not, the U.S. must be prepared to let these countries defend themselves.

The whole world will be safer if our allies do their part to support our common defense and security.

A Trump Administration will lead a free world that is properly armed and funded.

Thirdly, our friends are beginning to think they can’t depend on us.

We’ve had a president who dislikes our friends and bows to our enemies.

He negotiated a disastrous deal with Iran, and then we watched them ignore its terms, even before the ink was dry.

Iran cannot be allowed to have a nuclear weapon and, under a Trump Administration, will never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.

All of this without even mentioning the humiliation of the United States with Iran’s treatment of our ten captured sailors.

In negotiation, you must be willing to walk. The Iran deal, like so many of our worst agreements, is the result of not being willing to leave the table. When the other side knows you’re not going to walk, it becomes absolutely impossible to win.

At the same time, your friends need to know that you will stick by the agreements that you have with them.

President Obama gutted our missile defense program, then abandoned our missile defense plans with Poland and the Czech Republic.

He supported the ouster of a friendly regime in Egypt that had a longstanding peace treaty with Israel – and then helped bring the Muslim Brotherhood to power in its place.

Israel, our great friend and the one true Democracy in the Middle East, has been snubbed and criticized by an Administration that lacks moral clarity. Just a few days ago, Vice President Biden again criticized Israel – a force for justice and peace – for acting as an impediment to peace in the region.

President Obama has not been a friend to Israel. He has treated Iran with tender love and care and made it a great power in the Middle East – all at the expense of Israel, our other allies in the region and, critically, the United States.

We’ve picked fights with our oldest friends, and now they’re starting to look elsewhere for help.

Fourth, our rivals no longer respect us.

In fact, they are just as confused as our allies, but an even bigger problem is that they don’t take us seriously any more.

When President Obama landed in Cuba on Air Force One, no leader was there to meet or greet him – perhaps an incident without precedent in the long and prestigious history of Air Force One.

Then, amazingly, the same thing happened in Saudi Arabia -- it's called no respect.

Do you remember when the President made a long and expensive trip to Copenhagen, Denmark to get the Olympics for our country, and, after this unprecedented effort, it was announced that the United States came in fourth place?

He should have known the result before making such an embarrassing commitment.

The list of humiliations goes on and on.

President Obama watches helplessly as North Korea increases its aggression and expands even further with its nuclear reach.

Our president has allowed China to continue its economic assault on American jobs and wealth, refusing to enforce trade rules – or apply the leverage on China necessary to rein in North Korea.

He has even allowed China to steal government secrets with cyber attacks and engage in industrial espionage against the United States and its companies.

We’ve let our rivals and challengers think they can get away with anything.

If President Obama’s goal had been to weaken America, he could not have done a better job.

Finally, America no longer has a clear understanding of our foreign policy goals.

Since the end of the Cold War and the break-up of the Soviet Union, we’ve lacked a coherent foreign policy.

One day we’re bombing Libya and getting rid of a dictator to foster democracy for civilians, the next day we are watching the same civilians suffer while that country falls apart.

We're a humanitarian nation. But the legacy of the Obama-Clinton interventions will be weakness, confusion, and disarray.

We have made the Middle East more unstable and chaotic than ever before.

We left Christians subject to intense persecution and even genocide.

Our actions in Iraq, Libya and Syria have helped unleash ISIS.

And we’re in a war against radical Islam, but President Obama won’t even name the enemy!

Hillary Clinton also refuses to say the words “radical Islam,” even as she pushes for a massive increase in refugees.

After Secretary Clinton’s failed intervention in Libya, Islamic terrorists in Benghazi took down our consulate and killed our ambassador and three brave Americans. Then, instead of taking charge that night, Hillary Clinton decided to go home and sleep! Incredible.

Clinton blames it all on a video, an excuse that was a total lie. Our Ambassador was murdered and our Secretary of State misled the nation – and by the way, she was not awake to take that call at 3 o'clock in the morning.

And now ISIS is making millions of dollars a week selling Libyan oil.

This will change when I am president.

To all our friends and allies, I say America is going to be strong again. America is going to be a reliable friend and ally again.

We’re going to finally have a coherent foreign policy based upon American interests, and the shared interests of our allies.

We are getting out of the nation-building business, and instead focusing on creating stability in the world.

Our moments of greatest strength came when politics ended at the water’s edge.

We need a new, rational American foreign policy, informed by the best minds and supported by both parties, as well as by our close allies.

This is how we won the Cold War, and it’s how we will win our new and future struggles.

First, we need a long-term plan to halt the spread and reach of radical Islam.

Containing the spread of radical Islam must be a major foreign policy goal of the United States.

Events may require the use of military force. But it’s also a philosophical struggle, like our long struggle in the Cold War.

In this we’re going to be working very closely with our allies in the Muslim world, all of which are at risk from radical Islamic violence.

We should work together with any nation in the region that is threatened by the rise of radical Islam. But this has to be a two-way street – they must also be good to us and remember us and all we are doing for them.

The struggle against radical Islam also takes place in our homeland. There are scores of recent migrants inside our borders charged with terrorism. For every case known to the public, there are dozens more.

We must stop importing extremism through senseless immigration policies.

A pause for reassessment will help us to prevent the next San Bernardino or worse -- all you have to do is look at the World Trade Center and September 11th.

And then there’s ISIS. I have a simple message for them. Their days are numbered. I won’t tell them where and I won’t tell them how. We must as, a nation, be more unpredictable. But they’re going to be gone. And soon.

Secondly, we have to rebuild our military and our economy.

The Russians and Chinese have rapidly expanded their military capability, but look what’s happened to us!

Our nuclear weapons arsenal – our ultimate deterrent – has been allowed to atrophy and is desperately in need of modernization and renewal.

Our active duty armed forces have shrunk from 2 million in 1991 to about 1.3 million today.

The Navy has shrunk from over 500 ships to 272 ships during that time.

The Air Force is about 1/3 smaller than 1991. Pilots are flying B-52s in combat missions today which are older than most people in this room.

And what are we doing about this? President Obama has proposed a 2017 defense budget that, in real dollars, cuts nearly 25% from what we were spending in 2011.

Our military is depleted, and we’re asking our generals and military leaders to worry about global warming.

We will spend what we need to rebuild our military. It is the cheapest investment we can make. We will develop, build and purchase the best equipment known to mankind. Our military dominance must be unquestioned.

But we will look for savings and spend our money wisely. In this time of mounting debt, not one dollar can be wasted.

We are also going to have to change our trade, immigration and economic policies to make our economy strong again – and to put Americans first again. This will ensure that our own workers, right here in America, get the jobs and higher pay that will grow our tax revenue and increase our economic might as a nation.

We need to think smarter about areas where our technological superiority gives us an edge. This includes 3-D printing, artificial intelligence and cyberwarfare.

A great country also takes care of its warriors. Our commitment to them is absolute. A Trump Administration will give our service men and women the best equipment and support in the world when they serve, and the best care in the world when they return as veterans to civilian life.

Finally, we must develop a foreign policy based on American interests.

Businesses do not succeed when they lose sight of their core interests and neither do countries.

Look at what happened in the 1990s. Our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were attacked and seventeen brave sailors were killed on the USS Cole. And what did we do? It seemed we put more effort into adding China to the World Trade Organization – which has been a disaster for the United States – than into stopping Al Qaeda.

We even had an opportunity to take out Osama Bin Laden, and didn’t do it. And then, we got hit at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the worst attack on our country in its history.

Our foreign policy goals must be based on America’s core national security interests, and the following will be my priorities.

In the Middle East, our goals must be to defeat terrorists and promote regional stability, not radical change. We need to be clear-sighted about the groups that will never be anything other than enemies.

And we must only be generous to those that prove they are our friends.

We desire to live peacefully and in friendship with Russia and China. We have serious differences with these two nations, and must regard them with open eyes. But we are not bound to be adversaries. We should seek common ground based on shared interests. Russia, for instance, has also seen the horror of Islamic terrorism.

I believe an easing of tensions and improved relations with Russia – from a position of strength – is possible. Common sense says this cycle of hostility must end. Some say the Russians won’t be reasonable. I intend to find out. If we can’t make a good deal for America, then we will quickly walk from the table.

Fixing our relations with China is another important step towards a prosperous century. China respects strength, and by letting them take advantage of us economically, we have lost all of their respect. We have a massive trade deficit with China, a deficit we must find a way, quickly, to balance.

A strong and smart America is an America that will find a better friend in China. We can both benefit or we can both go our separate ways.

After I am elected President, I will also call for a summit with our NATO allies, and a separate summit with our Asian allies. In these summits, we will not only discuss a rebalancing of financial commitments, but take a fresh look at how we can adopt new strategies for tackling our common challenges.

For instance, we will discuss how we can upgrade NATO’s outdated mission and structure – grown out of the Cold War – to confront our shared challenges, including migration and Islamic terrorism.

I will not hesitate to deploy military force when there is no alternative. But if America fights, it must fight to win. I will never send our finest into battle unless necessary – and will only do so if we have a plan for victory.

Our goal is peace and prosperity, not war and destruction.

The best way to achieve those goals is through a disciplined, deliberate and consistent foreign policy.

With President Obama and Secretary Clinton we’ve had the exact opposite: a reckless, rudderless and aimless foreign policy – one that has blazed a path of destruction in its wake.

After losing thousands of lives and spending trillions of dollars, we are in far worse shape now in the Middle East than ever before.

I challenge anyone to explain the strategic foreign policy vision of Obama-Clinton – it has been a complete and total disaster.

I will also be prepared to deploy America’s economic resources. Financial leverage and sanctions can be very persuasive – but we need to use them selectively and with determination. Our power will be used if others do not play by the rules.

Our friends and enemies must know that if I draw a line in the sand, I will enforce it.

However, unlike other candidates for the presidency, war and aggression will not be my first instinct. You cannot have a foreign policy without diplomacy. A superpower understands that caution and restraint are signs of strength.

Although not in government service, I was totally against the War in Iraq, saying for many years that it would destabilize the Middle East. Sadly, I was correct, and the biggest beneficiary was Iran, who is systematically taking over Iraq and gaining access to their rich oil reserves – something it has wanted to do for decades. And now, to top it all off, we have ISIS.

My goal is to establish a foreign policy that will endure for several generations.

That is why I will also look for talented experts with new approaches, and practical ideas, rather than surrounding myself with those who have perfect resumes but very little to brag about except responsibility for a long history of failed policies and continued losses at war.

Finally, I will work with our allies to reinvigorate Western values and institutions. Instead of trying to spread “universal values” that not everyone shares, we should understand that strengthening and promoting Western civilization and its accomplishments will do more to inspire positive reforms around the world than military interventions.

These are my goals, as president.

I will seek a foreign policy that all Americans, whatever their party, can support, and which our friends and allies will respect and welcome.

The world must know that we do not go abroad in search of enemies, that we are always happy when old enemies become friends, and when old friends become allies.

To achieve these goals, Americans must have confidence in their country and its leadership again.

Many Americans must wonder why our politicians seem more interested in defending the borders of foreign countries than their own.

Americans must know that we are putting the American people first again. On trade, on immigration, on foreign policy – the jobs, incomes and security of the American worker will always be my first priority.

No country has ever prospered that failed to put its own interests first. Both our friends and enemies put their countries above ours and we, while being fair to them, must do the same.

We will no longer surrender this country, or its people, to the false song of globalism.

The nation-state remains the true foundation for happiness and harmony. I am skeptical of international unions that tie us up and bring America down, and will never enter America into any agreement that reduces our ability to control our own affairs.

NAFTA, as an example, has been a total disaster for the U.S. and has emptied our states of our manufacturing and our jobs. Never again. Only the reverse will happen. We will keep our jobs and bring in new ones. Their will be consequences for companies that leave the U.S. only to exploit it later.

Under a Trump Administration, no American citizen will ever again feel that their needs come second to the citizens of foreign countries.

I will view the world through the clear lens of American interests.

I will be America’s greatest defender and most loyal champion. We will not apologize for becoming successful again, but will instead embrace the unique heritage that makes us who we are.

The world is most peaceful, and most prosperous, when America is strongest.

America will continually play the role of peacemaker.

We will always help to save lives and, indeed, humanity itself. But to play that role, we must make America strong again.

We must make America respected again. And we must make America great again.

If we do that, perhaps this century can be the most peaceful and prosperous the world has ever known. Thank you.

CAN (Northern State Chapter) warns against arrest of GEJ

THE Northern branch of Christians Association of Nigeria, CAN, yesterday advised President Muhammadu Buhari against purported moves to arrest former President Goodluck Jonathan, saying Nigeria would boil should the man regarded as the “hero of democracy” be arrested by the government.

The body urged President Buhari to focus on arresting the menace of marauding and murderous herdsmen, erratic power supply and an economy that was getting weaker since his assumption of office. CAN, in a statement in Kaduna by its Public Relation Officer, PRO, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, one-time Adviser on Religious Affairs (Christians) to both late Governor Ibrahim Yakowa and former Governor Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State said: “Every honest Nigeria knows that the feelers on the ground are that this administration’s popularity is dwindling rapidly among the Nigerian people. It is therefore not advisable to think or plan to arrest former president Goodluck Jonathan. Let me warn that such a misadventure will set a wrong precedent and only open door for mischievous people to set this nation into confusion. What Nigerians need urgently is availability of fuel, electricity, prompt salary, security of lives and properties etc. “If the purported plan to arrest Jonathan is to please the international community and prove to them that we are fighting corruption, then let us know that these same international community are busy celebrating him as hero of democracy and even those who seriously wanted him to go for a change to happen are now singing a new song about him. Former President Jonathan is deservedly seen in Nigeria and beyond as a hero of democracy because of his actions before, during and after the 2015 elections. As such, it will be curious for the Buhari administration to initiate the arrest of such a statesman. ”Government must know that there are individuals serving today that have also been accused of corruption, but since there are claims that nothing has been established against them, they are walking and speaking like saints. While ignoring all these people, government now wants to arrest a man of peace like Jonathan? According to the statement: “CAN Northern states wishes to advice that such an action, if actualized, has the capacity to lead to serious confusion that will affect Nigeria economically and otherwise. We are afraid that such an action may spark chain reaction. “If our President wants to arrest anything for now then he should arrest the incessant spate of herdsmen attacks in Nigeria which has led to the deaths of almost a thousand innocent Nigerians under his watch. He should arrest the dangerous slide in the power sector; he should arrest the slide in the economy. We believe at this time and with the current realities our former president must not be denigrated but honoured, because honour must be given to whom it is due.”

Presidency and NASS settle differences Buhari to assent Budget next week

The much-awaited meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the National Assembly finally took place last night with firm assurances between the executive and the legislature that the grey areas in the 2016 budget would be resolved in a matter of days.

Vice President Yemi Osinabjo accompanied the President to the meeting. The lawmakers were led by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara. Accompanying Saraki were his deputy, Ike Elweremadu, Chief Whip, Senator Adeyeye, Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio and Senator Biodun Olujimi, amongst others.

Doagra was accompanied by his deputy, Yususf Suleiman Lasun and the House Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, the two Presidential Aides on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang and Abdulrahman Sumaila Kawu were also present at the parley.

The meeting which was held at the Conference Hall of the First Lady commenced around 9:20 p.m. and by 9:30pm the President was already out of the meeting, accompanied by Osinbajo.

Saraki, who briefed State House correspondents after the meeting said the two sides were taking steps to iron out the areas of differences between them. “We just finished a meeting with the president and vice president, and we came to let them know some of the solutions that we found in moving the budget process forward, and we are happy to say that we have agreed on the way forward and we believe that this process will be completed in matter of days rather than weeks.

“So it is good to Nigerians and all of us, we have found a way forward and in a meter of days the budget will be ready for president’s assent.”

But he would not go into the details of the solution. He assured, however, that both the executive and the legislature were committed to the signing of the budget within a very short period of time. In fact, Saraki assured the budget would be passed either on Monday or Tuesday next week.

Udoma also stated that both arms of government had agreed to work together to resolve all issues in the next few days, “and we have also agreed on the modalities of doing so.”

“So, it was a very good meeting, very positive and within the next few days, all issues will be resolved. We are working together, both the executive and the legislature, to sort those things out, within the next days, all matters will be resolved.”

Earlier yesterday, perturbed by the face-off between the executive and the legislature over the budget, a group of 77 senators vowed to rejig it by tomorrow for President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent.

The group of senators, under the aegis of G77, who addressed a press conference at the National Assembly yesterday promised Nigerians that it would ensure that the lawmakers sanitise the image of the Senate and deepen democracy in the upper chamber.

Akpabio, who led the group, said the intention was to deepen democracy, ensure good governance and shore up the image of the Senate, stressing that what Nigerians want from the current administration are dividends of democracy.

Akpabio said: “I want to assure you that the entire 77 senators who make up this group are all poised to ensure that there is good governance in Nigeria. And we want to support Mr. President to ensure that he gives out dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

“The intention of this group is to deepen democracy, ensure the sanitisation of the Senate and to give the President the needed support so that at the end of the day, we will have a better country for all.”

On the controversy surrounding the budget, Akpabio said: “The lingering issue is something that we feel is embarrassing to Nigeria and the National Assembly as a whole. If there has been a group like this, that issue would have been brought to an end.

“We are doing everything possible to rejig the details of the 2016 budget for Mr. President to sign as soon as possible. And we hope we can finish that by this Friday so that things can kick-start the Nigerian economy.”

According to him, all the social media reports that this group is meant to confront the executive are not true, because the group is not for some political parties but to discuss national issues.

“As I speak to you, aside from these 77 senators, most of my colleagues who have been in the red chamber for a long time are applying to join the group. And they want to move it to G 90 so that we can always speak in one voice.

“The group is apolitical and cuts across Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC). We are all senators of the eighth Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are not interested in political parties, we are interested in Nigeria and we will be discussing only national issues. We are not set to confront any executive, rather we will work with the executive,” he added.

Meanwhile, the World Bank from which Nigeria is seeking about $2.5 billion concessionary loan to finance the budget deficit has demanded that the sought lifeline can only be released if both executive and legislative arms of government will offer a commitment that the over N500 billion social component of the plan shall be fully implemented.

Also earlier yesterday, in continuation of the search for an amicable resolution of the 2016 budget impasse, the Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara held a closed-door meeting with President Buhari in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting which lasted for about 33 minutes was attended by the Chief of Staff, (CoS) to the President, Abba Kyari and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly, (Senate), Senator ItaEnang.

Journalists were shut out from speaking to the speaker, apparently on the orders of the president’s top security aides.

Dogara, who arrived at the Presidential Villa at exactly 2:30 p.m., came out of the President’s office around 3:05 p.m., exchanged pleasantries with some top officials of the Villa, before heading into his official car. The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki did not show up for the meeting.

The meeting between the President and the leadership of the National Assembly has been dominating the media since Friday last week when it was aborted at the dying minutes without an explanation. Following media enquiries , a Presidency source had told The Guardian at the weekend that the meeting was merely re-scheduled for Monday, but it did not hold either.

While the Friday’s aborted meeting was recorded in the President’s official engagement as it was fixed for 3:00 p.m., it was not clear if yesterday’s meeting was also on the President’s daily schedules. Following a protest by the State House reporters over their inability to speak to Dogara, the Chief of Staff simply retorted: “If the National Assembly leaders are to meet the President, and the Senate President is not around, the Speaker cannot talk to you.”

Enang, on his part, said he could not speak on the subject of the meeting.

Ghana Politics: Reasons why President Mahama will not be Re-elected

# 10 - Mahama Misunderstands what happened in 2012 - I have heard even some NPP folks worry and the President himself crow about how he used just 3 months to win the last election so this means the next one should be easier. On the contrary, after the shock and sympathy of President Mills' still suspicious death, the long and drawn out funeral, the lack of time for Mr. Mahama to upset a lot of people, the berserk spending spree he went on, as evidenced by the record-setting unplanned budget deficit in 2012 and the dwindled cash flow since to meet even meet public payrolls, having a longer time to govern is rather exposing Mr. Mahama and his team's unprecedented ineffectiveness.

# 9 - President Mahama underestimates Ghanaians' expectations - Listening to parts of this man's speech at the NDC Delegates' Congress, it is clear he thinks all he needs to do is to enumerate the projects he has started and he is automatically great. However, anyone can use our oil find to borrow us to the hilt as this government has done at an unprecedented level, "blow" most of it and still have a lot of projects to talk about. Dancing to "y3ntie obia", after announcing another inflated project of $29 million refurbishment of the Kumasi Airport to celebrate will not cut it because discerning Ghanaians know even Woyome got more for no work done. After all, Ghanaians also know we now have GH¢60 billion debts and growing instead of GH¢10 billion that President Kufuor left us, with no discernible growth in productive capacity created to pay for it.

# 8 - Promise and Fail - this president just can't stop promising an end to all our problems and turnarounds to our unprecedented malaise, to no avail. They have even promised to now stop promising. Good for them. Ghanaians know that these are just hollow promises.

# 7 - Intervention Programmes Destroyed - So many of the unprecedented programmes the last NPP government put in place to help the people have been destroyed under this government. No amount of last minute copy-cat "free education" put in place by this Mahama government will trick the people because they know how much have been destroyed and how fake this election year offer is.

# 6 - Corruption - Ghanaians know that the corruption of today is record-setting, with the perpetrators walking free. Unprecedented artificial projects inflation, unprecedented ghost names on government payrolls that has even historically friendly governments holding back aid to our nation for the first time, coupled with unprecedented economic retrogression, will not be rewarded by the majority patriotic Ghanaian voter in 2016. Forbes recently had Ghana as one of the worst run economies in the world and corruption and wrong priorities are the main causes. The (P)NDC and Mahama cannot escape accounting for this situation, having ruled Ghana about half of our history since independence and the fact that corruption has never been much worse.

About a week ago, I published the first part of this piece, which looked at about half of the objective reasons why President Mahama and the NDC are likely to lose, in regards to the 2016 elections. As I stated then and it is worth repeating, 2016 is in many ways will be the most unusual yet in our 4th Republican dispensation. Some evidence says NDC could win. However, in spite of some clear advantages, the biggest of which is incumbency and the suspected support of the EC, as we saw in 2000 and in 2008, when the people really want change and especially after 8 years of governance, it seems nothing gets in the way of that change. This is change phenomenon is why I believe the NDC will lose power in 2016. Here are the final 5 of the Top 10 reasons why the evidence says Mahama and the NDC government will be sent packing in 2016, in descending order of importance.

# 5 - Last Minute Make Believe Progress - President Mahama being an upstart president, who rode President Mills' death, sharing Ghana's borrowed funds like Father Christmas and needing an unjust Supreme Court verdict in a convincing case of electoral malfeasance, recently promised that the economy will conveniently turn around by December 2015, just in time to try to presumably convince Ghanaians again that his is an effective government. However, Ghanaians will be likely be bit harder to persuade that 3 years of hardships interspersed with 1 election year sharing of our own misappropriated funds is a fair deal and a logical proof of progress. This 3 for 1 is logically a bad deal which will probably be rejected in 2016, having been the same kind of deal offered in 2012.

# 4 - Unprecedented Debt - After the economic collapse of 2000 left by the last NDC government and the certification of that mess by Ghana's qualification as a HIPC nation, followed by the prudent economic management of the last NPP government, the debt stock left for the NDC government in 2008 was just about GH¢10 billion. In 6 years, with 2 more years to go, our debt stock sits at over GH¢60 billion. Our debt repayment obligations are more than government could invest in crucially needed infrastructural development already in this year's budget.

Not even running to the IMF to teach it some prudence in managing the economy and to loan us some more money, will offer enough short term respite like Mahama and the NDC are looking for to squeak through 2016 with. What is worse is that this debt has mostly been looted and not been used to create a real capacity for the economy to take off and effectively to aid repayments. Ghanaians know or will get to know that if we continue with this approach for another 4 years, we will go over the cliff. In fact, there is much trepidation as to our ability to survive another 2 year of Mahama's unprecedented borrowing.

# 3 - 19 Years of Rawlings' (P)NDC, 6 Years of Mahama/Mills with 2 to go, Compared to Kufuor's 8 and Ghanaians are simply tired of this Government - It is clear to most Ghanaians that the (P)NDC just can't do the job. Regardless of any similarities of concern to us all between the two parties and what we dislike about the NPP, the fact is that many of us know by now that the NPP is the best hope, if we want to develop Ghana. Ghanaians tired of a far superior NPP government after 8 years. How much more tired are they not of a record-setting bumbling government after 8 years?

# 2 - 2013 Election Petition - Ghanaians are simply smarter in regards to electoral fraud and will not be had again. The votes should not be even close and the avenues for stealing should be plugged. Gone should be days when there is palpable lack of transparency, placing our destiny in the hands of any man or woman and risking our nation's peace because of lack of faith in our election systems. Ghanaians know that the current President and parliament will not fix this problem and will want a new team to come in and ensure we reform to avoid risking our peace over elections again.

# 1 - The Economy - Some have mentioned the presence of American-type malls, planes, etcetera as signs that we are developing. As taught in Economics of Developing Countries 101, a key characteristic of under-developed countries is not a lack of rich people. Rather, it is a lack of a wide and thriving middle class as well as greater income disparities. Therefore, a key in measuring real growth or retrogression in economies like Ghana's is in measuring how the middle class has grown and thrived or not during the last 8 years. On that score, there is little doubt about the unprecedented poor performance of this government. Edifices and planes for the rich while so many more grow poorer and lose hope, lead only to more crime, etcetera and are not real signs of progress.

Ghanaians know exactly how their own pockets feel and will vote accordingly in 2016, regardless of whatever beautiful things they see others own or enjoy around them. With sustained real inflation, while productive capacities remain stagnant along with Mahama's unprecedented debts which we have no idea how we will be able to repay, swallowing our future away, oil prices falling below what may be enough to repay the cost of production, the current economy is worse than it was in 2000. Majority of our patriots want to continue with this performance? Don't count on that.

Spain without a government for 128 days, set to hold another election in June

Final attempt to save Spain from second election in six months fails as socialist leader tells king he cannot form government.

A last-ditch attempt to save Spain from going to the polls for the second time in six months failed after the leader of the Socialist Workers’ party (PSOE), Pedro Sánchez, told the king that he could not muster enough seats, saying, “I cannot and should not submit myself for investiture”.

After a second round of meetings with party leaders failed to produce an agreement, King Felipe VI decided that no political party has enough support to form a government and confirmed that elections would be held on 26 June.

The general election held on 20 December resulted in no one party having a majority. Nor could an alliance of the right between the People’s party (PP) and Ciudadanos, or of the left between the Socialist Workers and Podemos, reach the magic number of 176 seats.

After months of stagnation there was a last-minute flurry of hope after the so-called Prado accord was presented on Tuesday by the progressive green party Compromís. The accord emulates the cross-party coalition that governs the Valencia region.

The group put forward 30 proposals that would have allowed Sánchez to be sworn in as president of a left coalition of independents. The government would then submit to a vote of confidence.

Sánchez’s PSOE agreed to 27 of the 30 proposals, but this was not good enough for Podemos. “We’ve made enough concessions already,” said the leader of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, adding that PSOE’s counter-offer amounted to a no. “We are going to win this election and we will offer our hand to PSOE and progressive forces.”

Ciudadanos, for its part, said it did not want to join a government based on the radical Compromís proposals, which cover issues from employment law to evictions. Referring to PSOE’s three-page document, the leader of Ciudadanos, Albert Rivera, said: “Three pages on governing Spain for four years between six different parties. It’s not even worth looking at.”

Spain has now been without a government for 128 days, with two months still to go to polling day. As Mariano Rajoy’s People’s party won the most seats, the king initially asked him to form a government. Rajoy declined, knowing he lacked the allies to achieve a majority, and yet he did not rule himself out of the race.

On 1 March, Sánchez then made a doomed attempt to be sworn in. He concocted a pact with Ciudadanos that gave them more seats than PP, but still well short of a majority. Podemos was invited to join them, an invitation that was roundly rejected by about 80% of party activists.

In the interim, Rajoy has made little effort to woo possible coalition partners, aside from inviting PSOE to form a “grand coalition” with the PP, the only combination that added up to a majority.

His government, which has appeared helpless in the face of Spain’s feeble economy and chronic unemployment, has been dogged by a series of corruption scandals that have cost the party votes. Rajoy became prime minister in 2011 when the PP won the general election, but shows no signs of stepping aside to make way for a new leader.

Ever since democracy was reinstated in 1978, Spain has been a two-party state with mostly minority PP or PSOE governments propped up by the Basques and Catalans in return for more autonomy. The arrival on the political stage of Podemos and Ciudadanos has changed all that, but so far not for the better.

If the polls are to be believed, the June election will deliver a similar result to December’s. While the catchphrase of the day is “a government of change”, the reality is that, until Spanish politicians learn the art of compromise, Spain may face a long period of stalemate.

Super Tuesday 4 Results: Read all the Hows and Whys

It was a huge night for the Clinton and Trump campaigns. Clinton won four of five states and a slew of elected delegates. Trump won all five states up for grabs and probably every delegate outside of Rhode Island (which allocated its delegates proportionally). Moreover, many of the delegate candidates Trump endorsed in the loophole primary in Pennsylvania did well. We’ll have more on the Republican race in a separate post from Nate, but let’s talk more about Clinton’s big wins.

Donald Trump swept primaries in five states in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic on Tuesday night, with Hillary Clinton close behind with four victories of her own. It was a night that solidified the position of both presidential front-runners, although none of their rivals were ready to concede the race just yet.

Trump won all five states: Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

Clinton won four states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

Bernie Sanders won one state, Rhode Island.

The results were long-anticipated: Trump has polled well in Northeastern and mid-Atlantic states for months. And Clinton matched her strong showing into the polls heading into Super Tuesday as well, although Sanders' victory in Rhode Island stopped her from getting a sweep of her own.

Clinton extended her delegate lead by what looks to be about 50 elected delegates. She did so thanks mostly to Maryland and Pennsylvania. She won by about 30-percentage points in Maryland (where she’ll pick up about 30 elected delegates) and more than 10 percentage points in Pennsylvania (where she’ll pick up about 20 elected delegates). Clinton will likely pick up a net of about 2 elected delegates in Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island combined.

Clinton did well tonight for the same reasons that she performed well in previous primaries. She won 68 percent or more of the black vote in Connecticut, Maryland and Pennsylvania (Delaware and Rhode Island didn’t have exit polls). She also won two-thirds or more of voters making more than $200,000 in both Connecticut and Maryland (there was no $200,000+ crosstab in Pennsylvania).

Simply put, the contests tonight followed the already established demographic patterns of the Democratic race. That’s very bad for Sanders.

When you combine Clinton’s net 50 delegate victory tonight with the 235 elected delegate lead she had before tonight, Clinton holds a lead of about 285 elected delegates. That’s a huge lead. In order for Sanders to catch up, he’ll have to win 64 percent of the remaining elected delegates. That seems quite unlikely given the polling that is out there. In fact, I think it’s fair to say that barring a miracle, Clinton will have more elected delegates at the end of the primary season than Sanders.

Add in Clinton’s even larger edge among superdelegates, and Clinton is the presumptive nominee. That was mostly clear before tonight, and it’s crystal clear now. Now, that doesn’t mean Sanders needs to quit the race. In fact, all indications are he will stay in. But he’s staying in without a real path to the nomination, so don’t be surprised if he cuts down on the more negative attacks on Clinton.

Democrats dirty Campaign strategy is on a New Low

The Democratic presidential race got even uglier Wednesday — pulling outsiders into the fray — as Sen. Bernie Sanders said his front-running rival Hillary Clinton was "not qualified" to be president because of "special-interest" contributions to her super PAC.

"She has been saying lately that she thinks that I am quote-unquote not qualified to be president," Sanders told a crowd of more than 10,000 people at Temple University's Liacouras Center in Philadelphia. "I don't believe that she is qualified if she is, through her super PAC, taking tens of millions of dollars in special-interest funds."
"I don't think you are qualified if you get $15 million from Wall Street through your super PAC," Sanders continued to cheers from his audience. "I don't think you are qualified if you have voted for the disastrous war in Iraq. I don't think you are qualified if you have supported virtually every disastrous trade agreement which has cost us millions of decent-paying jobs."

Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon responded quickly to Sanders' comment, writing on Twitter: "Hillary Clinton did not say Bernie Sanders was `not qualified.' But he has now -- absurdly -- said it about her. This is a new low."
Indeed, Clinton did not say Sanders was "unqualified" or "not qualified" during a much-quoted interview Wednesday morning on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
In a discussion of an interview with Sanders that appeared in the New York Daily News, Clinton was asked if "Bernie Sanders is qualified and ready to be president of the United States."

She responded, "Well, I think he hadn't done his homework and he'd been talking for more than a year about doing things that he obviously hadn't really studied or understood, and that does raise a lot of questions."
Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs said Wednesday evening that Sanders was responding to reports on the CNN and Washington Post websites. A Post story was headlined, "Clinton questions whether Sanders is qualified to be president."
The Democratic race has become noticeably fractious in recent weeks as Sanders has closed the delegate gap with a series of wins over Clinton, capped by Tuesday's convincing victory in the Wisconsin Democratic primary. The Vermont senator's latest victory prompted his campaign manager to predict that the Democratic convention in Philadelphia could become an open contest for the nomination.

“It will be an open convention, likely with neither candidate having a majority of pledged delegates," Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver told CNN on Tuesday.

In response, Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook blasted out a fundraising memo as Sanders was rolling to victory in Wisconsin, saying Clinton’s delegate lead “is nearly insurmountable.”

He said the Sanders camp, in pushing for an open convention, is trying to “flip delegates’ votes, overturning the will of the voters.”

The complicating factor is the role played by “superdelegates,” party insiders free to support whomever they want. When those delegates and “pledged” delegates awarded via primaries and caucuses are added together, Clinton has a huge 1,748-1,058 delegate lead.

She would need to win just 635 of the remaining delegates – roughly a third -- to get a majority of total delegates, or 2,383, before the convention. Given her record in the primaries so far, that’s hardly a heavy lift.

But when only pledged delegates are counted, Clinton’s lead is narrower, at 1,279-1,027.

Despite Weaver’s comment, Clinton could easily win a majority of them with roughly 43 percent of the remaining pledged delegates.

The Sanders campaign, however, may be setting the bar much higher. If they argue Clinton must win 2,383 pledged delegates to clinch the nomination – in other words, hit a majority of all delegates counting only pledged delegates – she would need more than 60 percent of the remaining pledged field.

Asked specifically what it would take to avoid an open convention, a DNC official reiterated that 2,383 represents the majority of all delegates, but would not speculate beyond that.

Shiite Killings: Army Generals gave witness account to Judicial Commission

The Kaduna Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the state government to unravel the circumstances surrounding the December 12, 2015 bloody clash between Nigerian Army and members of the  Islamic Movement in Nigeria otherwise known as Shi’ite in Zaria, began hearing without representatives of the IMN.

The JCI  had series of adjournment as result of the inability of counsels to the Shiites to have access to its leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky said to be in the custody of Department of State Services since the December ‘s clash.

However, at the resumed sitting of the Commission on Wednesday the Nigerian Army presented four witnesses who were part of the convoy of  the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-Gen.Tukur Buratai on the fateful day.

They  (witnesses) include,  Maj-Gen. Ado Abubakar, Maj-Gen.Adeniyi Oyebade, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman and Brig-Gen. Ayuba Ted Gamma.

The judicial commission was told why it took the Nigerian Army three days before the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky could be arrested and taken into custody.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 1 Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Adeniyi Oyebade, who narrated what happened during the clash said on the fateful day of the clash, he received reports that the IMN members were gathering to launch  attacks.

He explained that based on that report, he moved round the town in the evening and confirmed that the IMN members had started gathering around the Gyallesu area and where the Hussainiya was located carrying all sorts of weapons.

The GOC, under cross-examination, said casualties from the scene of the Zaria clash were more than what he witnessed in the war that ravaged Sierra-Leone and Liberia.

He said,   “what we saw were very violent extremist group willing to take on the state and they did that so strongly.

“I’ve been involved in operations in Sierra Leone and Liberia but I have not seen anything as bloody as what I saw in Zaria, I have never been involved in anything as bloody as what I saw in Zaria.”

The Director of Administration of the Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Ado  Abubakar while testifying before the commission, said based on hindsight; he has reasons to believe there was a plan to eliminate the Chief of Army Staff.

He said while others were allowed to pass, immediately it became obvious that the Army chief was about to pass, some youths blocked the roads and while his men tried to persuade them to clear the road, gunshots were heard coming from the Hussainiya.

At this point, he said soldiers had to act to save the COAS  in line with army act, adding that  people died as a result of fire outbreak and the stampede that resulted from trying to avoid fire.

The Acting Provost Marshal of the Nigeria Army, Brig-Gen Ayuba Ted Hamman in his own submission said it was the Shiites that first attacked the Army after blocking the roads to prevent the COAS from passing through the route.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna  State Government has granted an the extension request of the Commission of Inquiry.

In a statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to governor Nasir El-Rufai, Samuel Aruwan, said the government granted a four-week extension to the commission to conclude its job.

According to the statement, the Kaduna State Government granted the extension at the request of the chairman of the Commission of Inquiry

CCT: EFCC narrated Saraki's financial operations as a governor and Senator

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) sitting in Abuja was informed wednesday of how Senate President Bukola Saraki continued to get paid his salary by the Kwara State Government after he had stepped down as the governor of the state on May 29, 2011.

Details were also laid bare on the numerous lodgments and transfers made by Saraki and his aide during his tenure as governor of the state, with some occurring several times in one day.

However, power failure at the CCT wednesday forced Justice Danladi Umar, chairman of the tribunal, to adjourn Saraki’s trial to April 18, 2016.

The power outage happened when Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), counsel to the federal government, was leading a prosecution witness, Mr. Michael Wetkas, in evidence.

Prior to the outage, Mr. Kanu Agabi (SAN), the lead counsel to Saraki, had pleaded with Umar for an adjournment, but the chairman of the tribunal refused, saying he was ready to continue with the case until 6 pm.
However, the blackout did the work for Agabi, as the outage compelled the chairman of the tribunal to adjourn the trial.

Before the lights went out, Wetkas, a detective of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), while continuing with his evidence which started on Tuesday against the Senate president, claimed he (Saraki) received monthly salaries from the Kwara State Government even after he had stepped down as governor and had become a senator.
Wetkas claimed that Saraki received monthly salaries from June 2011, when he left office as governor of the state, to August 2015 when he served as a senator.

“In the course of our investigation, we wrote to Access Bank for them to give us details of the salary account of the defendant. The salary that was coming into the account was N254,212 as of August 1, 2007,” the EFCC’s detective stated.

“As of June 3, 2011, the salary was N291,124. On July 4, there was another payment with the narration Kwara State Government (KSG), June 2011 salary. The amount was N572,286. On August 29, 2011, there was another payment in the sum of N744,002 from the Kwara State Government,” he testified.

He added that on September 29, 2011 there was another payment of N743,942 with the narration salary payment from the Kwara State Government and with another payment of N1,165,468 as salary payment on October 27, 2011.

The EFCC witness continued: “In November 2011, there was a payment of the same amount. The narration was December pension; on February 1, 2012, there was a payment of the same amount with the narration for pension.

“The salary payments stopped in this account on August 31, 2015. The defendant left office on May 29, 2011, he became senator in the same year.”

Wetkas also gave a detailed account of how Saraki made cash deposits of $10,000 eighteen times in one day.
While giving evidence on behalf of the prosecution, the EFCC detective claimed that the Senate president, while he was governor of Kwara State, diverted the state’s loans to buy property for himself.

According to him, “On March 23, 2005, there was a cash deposit of N8.2 million into the defendant’s account at the GRA Ilorin branch; on March 29, 2005, there was a N200 million bank draft made in favour of an implementation committee on the sale of government property.

“On October 16, 2006, the defendant obtained a loan of N380 million from Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank). On that same day, there was a bank draft in favour of the same implementation committee. The draft was N286.3 million.

“On the same day, there was another draft of N12.8 million in favour of the committee on the landed properties. The loans were meant for the purchase of properties by the defendant. On that same day there was a loan disbursement of N380 million.”

He added that on February 7, 2007, there was a transfer of N3 million by Abdul Adama (Saraki’s personal assistant) and another electronic transfer of N130.6 million on April 3, 2007 —- on the instruction of Saraki from the implementation committee to his account.

“On that same day, there were cash lodgments five times. The sums were N11 million, N20 million, N20 million, N20 million and N6 million. The total amount on that day was N77 million. Before these lodgments, there was a debit balance of N81,960,289,” the witness disclosed.

“On November 22, 2007, there were cash lodgments into the account (Saraki’s naira account) by Abdul Adama in 50 different transactions. Before those lodgments, the account had a debit balance of N80,210,976.

“On November 29, there were cash lodgments by Ubi — over 20 transactions in bits of N20 million. On March 20, 2008, there were more cash lodgments. Before then the account had a debit balance of N96 million.

“On September 23, 2008, there were different cash lodgments by different individuals. On April 30, 2009, there was a bank draft in favour of PGL Asset Management Limited in the sum of N400 million.

“On October 26, 2009, cash lodgments were made by different individuals to the Zenith Bank account of the defendant 87 times in a single day.

“On May 19, 2009, he made a cash lodgment of $10, 000 18 times in one day in his dollar account. On 23 August, 2009, $99,975 was transferred into his account,” he said.

The prosecuting lawyer, Mr. Jacobs, later tendered three documents, which according to him were the details of Saraki’s accounts at GTB, as evidence in the case.

With no serious opposition from Agabi, the tribunal admitted the documents as exhibits.
Saraki is facing a 13-count charge bordering on false assets declaration and money laundering. He had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges.

But reacting to the evidence submitted by the federal government on the payment of salaries after Saraki had stepped down as the governor of Kwara State, the state government wednesday clarified that there was never a time it had paid the former governor’s salary after he left office in May 2011.

A statement from the Kwara State Government in Ilorin, which was signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Isiaka Gold, described the allegation against Saraki as “false and uncalled for”.
Gold explained that Saraki’s last salary was N291,474 for the month of May 2011.

According to the SSG, “From June 2011, former Governor Saraki started receiving his pension which was N578,188 as other past governors in the country.”

The statement added that after the review of pensions of former political office holders by the state Pension Board, the former governor’s pension increased to N1,239,493.94 monthly from October 2014 to date.

He dismissed as false and misleading the allegation that Saraki received salaries after the expiration of his two-term tenure as governor of the state.

Gold advised interested stakeholders to seek clarification from the appropriate authority to avoid misleading the public.

In another statement, the Director General of the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Constituency Office, otherwise known as Mandate, Hon. Abdulwahab Isa, explained that since Saraki stepped down as governor of Kwara State in May 2011, his pension, which was paid into a special account, has been managed by a group of trustees and used for education endowment for students across the state.

Isa, in a statement yesterday stated that the Senate president does not even have access to the account. He said a group of trustees led by him were mandated to use the money in paying scholarship grants and funds for Joint Admission and Matriculation Board ((JAMB) forms for students across the state.

“We have also used the money to pay for coaching of students who were preparing for JAMB examinations. For example, the most recent beneficiaries from the fund were two University of Ilorin Faculty of Law students who were the best in their set and needed money for their enrollment into the Nigerian Law School,” he said.

Isa added that the funds from the pension account have been utilised in fulfillment of a pledge publicly made by Saraki to the people
