Hillary Clinton's win in South Carolina showcased her durable support among black Democrats and raised questions about Sen. Bernie Sanders’s ability to compete with her in the South. For Clinton, this was the first comfortable victory of a Democratic primary season that – just a year ago – was supposed to be comfortable from end to end, with Clinton waltzing through as a front-runner.
Donald Trump prevailed in South Carolina on Feb. 20 after a rocky week on the campaign trail by tapping into the frustrations and anxieties of voters here with his red-hot rhetoric about combating terrorism and ending illegal immigration, brushing aside what appeared to be a condemnation from Pope Francis.
