Addict snatched heroin from police interview table and ATE it

A drug addict ATE a wrap of heroin from a police interview table in a desperate bid to destroy police evidence. Alan Timperley, 38, was being quizzed by Lancashire Police officers when they found the Class A drug concealed on his person.
An officer placed the drugs on the table during his subsequent interrogation - but Timperley snatched the stash and swallowed it. Burnley Crown Court heard that the serial criminal, who has 35 convictions for 66 offences, opted to dispose of the drugs because the officer was ‘doing his head in’.Timperley, of Accrington, Lancs, was jailed for four months after pleading guilty to perverting the course of justice as well as earlier burglary and theft offences. He was detained by police on November 19 last year for unrelated offences when he ate the heroin wrap, according to Michael Brady, prosecuting.

Timperley was already on bail at the time following a theft of an iPhone and a burglary in which around £400 of vodka was also taken. David Morton, defending, insisted that Timperley had been trying to seek help for his long-standing drug problem in a bid to turn his life around. Mr Morton said: “It is very odd for such an exhibit to be put in front of an individual who was struggling with not having either a prescription or drugs.“It was put on the table in front of him during the interview and under those circumstances, as he was suffering from withdrawal and desperation, he stuck it in his mouth.“They knew what it was, he knew what it was. It’s clearly not acceptable but a very unusual offence.”
