NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A 16-year-old is accused of shooting three of his family members after police say they tried to wake him up Tuesday morning to go to school,
Officials say the incident was reported shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday, when his 42-year-old mother and 67-year-old grandmother tried to wake him up, but he didn't comply. He then became angry and allegedly began threatening his family, according to the station.
According to detectives, the suspect then grabbed a handgun and began shooting. The grandmother was reportedly struck twice, while his 12-year-old sister and 6-year-old nephew were grazed.
The suspect's 2-year-old sister was also home when the shooting occurred, but she was not hurt, according to WTVF.
The grandmother was transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover, while the other two victims were treated at a children's hospital.
The teen allegedly fled the scene and dropped off the weapon at a different apartment complex, according to the station. Police found him walking by train tracks, where he was taken into custody without incident.
The family is reportedly cooperating, telling police that they were not aware the teenager had the gun. It's not clear how he obtained the weapon.
Investigators say he was charged as a juvenile with four counts of attempted homicide and one count of reckless endangerment.
The teen's identity was not released, according to WTVF.
