The 8th Senate set a record breaking Budget Approval

The Senate on Wednesday passed the 2016 Appropriation Bill into law.
The Senate approved the sum of N6 060 677 358,227 trillion for the  2016 fiscal year. For the first time in 17yrs, the Nigeria Senate is passing a budget into law with a reduced figure from the Executive proposed budget.

The figure is less than the N6.08 trillion presented by President Muhammadu Buhari in December.

The passage followed the adoption of the report of the Senate Committees on Appropriations on the 2016 Appropriation Bill, tabled before the Red Chamber by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje during its plenary on Wedenesday.

This is the first time since 1999 that the National Assembly would approve a figure lower than the one proposed by the executive.
