We were gang raped, dumped, then raped again - teen girls

Bloemfontein (South Africa)– Two teenage girls have told police they were both raped in two separate incidents by different suspects in the space of two days.

Police spokesperson Constable Peter Kareli said the girls - aged 13 and 15 - were gang raped on Thursday, February 18, held overnight by their assailants, and dumped at a hiking spot the next day. Here they were raped again - on Friday, February 19 - this time, by two homeless men.

Six men allegedly involved in the first rape have been arrested.

On Thursday, the two girls were allegedly on their way to a hiking spot in Phuthaditjhaba in the Free State to get transport to Bethlehem. They were then offered a lift in a silver vehicle, said Kareli.

On arrival in Bethlehem the vehicle took a different direction, and headed towards Bloemfontein.

Kareli said the victims were taken to a house in Buitesig where they were raped by five men, while one man looked on.

The girls were then dumped at a hiking spot in Bloemfontein on the Friday to hike back to Bethlehem.

While they were waiting to get transport to Bethlehem, two homeless men approached them and forced them to a dumping site where they were raped again.

The suspects released them and the girls went back to the hiking spot, where they were later saved by a truck driver, said Kareli.

The six men were later arrested and were expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.

The two homeless men are still at large. A case of rape and kidnapping was opened.
