The Nigeria Goverment through her twerter handle ( Govt. of Nigeria
@AsoRock ) gave reasons behind the rebirth of War Against Indiscipline WAI
and the chronological changes of names the agency has since its creation in 1984.
In August 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari officially relaunched the agency. The rebirth of WAI has mixed reactions from Nigerians, while many sees it as a dictatorship approach to tackling the age long indiscipline in the country, some Nigerians were glad that the agency was reformed and relaunched.
Excerpt from @asorock
"The War Against Indiscipline (WAI) Brigade was formed in 1984. At birth it was domiciled with the Fed Ministry of Information and Culture.
In 1989 the WAI Brigade was transferred to the Mass Mobilization for Self Reliance, Social Justice & Economic Recovery (MAMSER)
In 1993 WAI Brigade transferred to the newly-created National Orientation Agency (NOA). The Act establishing NOA empowers it to "establish for the purpose of carrying out its functions under this Act, a 'National Orientation Brigade.'"
In 1994, WAI was reborn as the War Against Indiscipline & Corruption (WAIC).
In 1999 it took new form as the National Rebirth Campaign.
In May 2013, the Jonathan administration relaunched the WAI Brigade as the Community Support Brigade
The WAI Brigade, also known as Community Support Brigade(CSB), is now being repositioned by the National Orientation Agency (@NOA_Nigeria), to bring about ethical and value reorientation, and to be the volunteer corps of first choice in #Nigeria.
The WAI Brigade currently has more than 170,000 unpaid volunteer members across Nigeria.
